Be Kind Seychelles – Advocating for Animal Welfare, One Campaign at a Time

Following the heart-wrenching mass poisoning incident in April 2023, a group of like-minded individuals came together to form Be Kind Seychelles, an organisation with a mission rooted in empathy, education, and action. Driven by the shared belief that every animal deserves compassion and care, the group launched a movement to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Seychelles’ four-legged residents.

Mission and Vision

Be Kind aims to promote compassion and responsible pet ownership, while raising awareness about the critical role of sterilisation in animal welfare. Through educational outreach and hands-on sterilisation drives, the organisation is working to reduce the stray animal population and foster a more humane society for future generations.

How It All Started

In the wake of tragedy, the founding members decided enough was enough. United by their love for animals and dismay at the lack of humane solutions, they pooled their professional and personal strengths to start something that would have a real, lasting impact. Despite juggling full-time jobs and families, their dedication has resulted in successful sterilisation campaigns and collaborations with local shelters and authorities.

How the Clinics Work

Each sterilisation campaign is a carefully organised event:

  • Pet owners must book in advance.

  • Animals are registered and weighed on arrival.

  • The procedure includes pre-op preparation, the surgery, and post-operative care instructions before release.

Why Sterilisation Matters

In Seychelles, where stray animal numbers are high, sterilisation is a humane and effective way to prevent overpopulation, reduce suffering, and improve the overall wellbeing of animals. It also helps minimise the spread of disease, aggressive behaviour, and the heartbreaking cycle of neglect.

How You Can Help

Be Kind Seychelles depends heavily on community support to run its sterilisation drives. You can assist by:

  • Donating funds (even Rs200 can cover one sterilisation)

  • Offering accommodation or transport support for international vets

  • Volunteering your time

  • Donating items like old linen or pet food

Every rupee and every hour volunteered helps save lives and improve conditions for animals in need.

Working with Shelters

Be Kind maintains close ties with both SSPCA and Pet Haven, providing sterilisation support and resources whenever possible. These shelters are often overwhelmed, and your donations or time can also make a difference there.

Looking Ahead

The goal is to hold at least one major sterilisation campaign each year, spanning five days and multiple locations, reaching around 70 animals per day. A smaller drive in La Digue is also on the wishlist—funding dependent. While a permanent facility isn’t necessary, what is needed is ongoing public support and stronger animal welfare laws to protect the voiceless.
