Seychelles Sports Awards is coming up on the 1st of March 2024 at the NSC Hall, Roche Caiman. Vote now for your top athlete of 2023! Your vote will count in the People’s Choice category.

With the top 20 male and female athletes announced for the 2023 Sports Awards, we at Inside Seychelles are giving a voice to the public, where you can now choose who you think deserves to be crowned the top athlete.

The winner of the award for the sportsman and woman of the year is selected by a selection committee, made up of sports officials and journalists, and over the years, some of the winners have not necessarily been universally agreed upon by the public.

With the Sports Awards – People’s Choice Award this year, the public will have their voiced heard, where through Inside Seychelles, you will be able to vote for your favourite athlete, who will be crowned as the People’s Choice Champion on the night.

You’ll find the voting form below, simply add your details and YOUR choice for Top Athlete of 2023. Everyone who votes, giving their full details, will go into the draw for the chance to WIN a SCR 4000/- meal voucher at Bravo Restaurant! Voting will close on 29th February 2024 at 7 PM!

The following are the top 10 male finalists along with their top results from 2023, to help you make your choice.

Iven Moise – Athletics
Won two gold medals at the Indian Ocean Island Games in the 5000m and 10,000m races and also finished 148th at City Marathon in Kenya, and finally ranked 5th at the 9es Jeux de la Francophonie.

Keddy Agnes – Boxing
Keddy won a gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games, as well as a silver medal at the African Championships in Cameroon. He also finished at the Olympic qualification tournament in Senegal.

Dasheil Franchette – Boxing
Won the gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games and also competed at the African Championships.

Simon Bachmann – Swimming
Won three gold medals at the Indian Ocean Island Games, while he also claimed one silver and six bronze medals, which made him the most successful Seychelles athlete at the last games.

Nantenaina Finesse – Judo
His biggest accomplishment was a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championship in South Africa, while locally he dominated to win gold at three local tournaments, including the National Championships.

Dominic Dugasse – Judo
A former Olympian, Dugasse won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Championship in South Africa, and also claimed a bronze medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games.

Richard Ah-Weng – Karate
Won a bronze medal at the World Full Contact Kyokushin – RYU Tournament held in Philippines.

Wallace Dorasamy – Bodybuilding
Won a gold medal at the British championship pro qualifier and later claimed gold at the Pro-Qualifier, Cape Town. Also won a silver medal at the British championship pro qualifier, which was held in Manchester, England.

Rick Confiance – Weightlifting
Won three silver medals at Indian Ocean Island Games, while he also broke three national records in 2023.

William Weidner – Golf
Finished second in the Pro division and 4th overall at the MCB Open, in Mauritius, and won numerous local tournaments, such as the ABSA Open and H-Savy Insurance Open.

Sports Awards – People’s Choice Award – The following are the top 10 female finalists along with their top results from 2023, to help you make your choice.

Natacha Chetty – Athletics 
Claimed a gold medal at the Mountain West Championships, in Nevada, USA. She also won gold at the Texas Tech Championships at the Don Kirby Elite Invitation in New Mexico, Chetty finished 8th.

Clementina Agricole – Weightlifting
She was able to win two silver and one bronze medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games.

Felicity Passon – Swimming
Won one gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games. At the same games, Passon claimed a total of eight silver medals, and two bronze medals, making her the top female performer from Seychelles at the regional multi-sport tournament.

Khema Elizabeth – Swimming
Khema won two silver and one bronze medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games, while she also claimed a gold medal at the Hamilton Summer Sizzler in Dubai. Locally, she was quite dominant, winning three gold medals at the national championships.

Aaliyah Palestrini – Swimming
Aaliyah was also part of Seychelles swim team at the Indian Ocean Island GAmes, where she won two silver and a bronze medal. At the Hamilton Summer Sizzler in Dubai, she won a gold and a silver medal.

Amandah Payet – Judo
Won silver at the Indian Ocean Island Games, while she dominated the local scene, winning most of the tournaments she competed in.

Angelique Adeline – Volleyball
Was part of the Seychelles volleyball team that claimed the gold medal at the Indian Ocean Island Games. Locally, her team also won the Volleyball open competition, SVF Cup and finished fifth at the Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) Zone 7 Club Championship

Maya Biong – Volleyball
Also part of the Seychelles gold medal winning team at the Indian Ocean Island Games and helped a club side to a 9th place finished at the Confédération Africaine de Volleyball (CAVB) Zone 7 Club Championship.

Mastura Shah-Faure – Karate
Was able to claim one gold, and one silver medal at the World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) Region 14 Championship held in Maputo, Mozambique.

Alison Hoareau – Yachting
Won the gold medal at the Regional Sailing Championships in Mauritius, while locally she won the Suzuki Marine ILCA, Seychelles Yachting Association (SYA) ILCA Cup, and the National Championship .
