The Danny Faure Foundation (DFF) is set to open its very first exhibition titled Nou Losean, running from May 30th to June 27th, 2025 at Carrefour des Arts in Victoria. This exciting and meaningful exhibition invites the public to step into a world of vibrant creativity, featuring the inspiring artistic and literary works of children from across Seychelles who have participated in the Foundation’s painting and writing competitions. Visitors will experience powerful messages from young ocean warriors, conveyed through breathtaking artwork and captivating stories, as they call on humanity to do more to protect the beating blue heart of our planet – the ocean.

Launch of Essay Competition – Mon Lenspirasyon

During the opening of Nou Losean on May 30th, the Danny Faure Foundation will launch a new essay competition titled Mon Lenspirasyon. This initiative invites secondary school students to explore the artworks featured at the exhibition and use them as a springboard for creativity. The task will be to write a compelling essay about the ocean, inspired by the idea that it is the beating blue heart of our planet. The competition aims to engage youth in both environmental awareness and literacy development, and will remain open until September 15th, 2025.

About the Exhibits

The exhibition will showcase artwork submitted through two national primary school painting competitions, both created to spark imagination and critical thinking among young Seychellois. These art competitions reflect the Foundation’s focus on ocean governance, youth empowerment and leadership by encouraging children to reflect on environmental issues and express their ideas through visual storytelling.

The first competition was launched on July 1st, 2021, under the theme “The ocean is the beating blue heart of our planet. Protect it and preserve our future.” A remarkable 486 paintings were submitted, with all winning prizes sponsored by the DFF. The 12 winning entries were later featured in the Foundation’s 2022 calendar. The second competition began on June 7th, 2024, under the theme “The Blue Planet is our home. Let us protect it for our future.” This more recent edition received 58 entries, with prizes generously sponsored by Penlac, 7 Degrees South, and Seytreasure. All paintings from both competitions will be on public display at Nou Losean.

Writing Competitions

In addition to visual art, the Danny Faure Foundation has developed writing competitions that empower young voices to advocate for ocean conservation while also building literacy and research skills. These competitions are designed to encourage a deeper understanding of environmental issues and provide a platform for youth to share their perspectives.

On June 1st, 2023, the Foundation launched an essay competition for post-secondary students under the theme “The Beating Blue Heart”. This competition was held to mark the fifth anniversary of the historic 2019 deep-sea expedition First Descent: Seychelles, which was carried out by Nekton in partnership with the Government of Seychelles. The Foundation received five thoughtful entries, with prizes sponsored by both the Island Development Company (IDC) and the DFF.

Then, on February 5th, 2024, the Foundation launched Voices of the Ocean, a short story competition open to primary school students. This initiative was created to inspire children to think deeply about the importance of the ocean, the threats it faces, and to propose meaningful solutions through storytelling. The competition received 73 entries, with winning prizes sponsored by Semi Submarine Seychelles, Printec Press Holdings, and the DFF.
