Healthier Food Choices For Seychelles Children

Written by on 2nd October 2026

Do you find it difficult to encourage your children to eat healthily?

Maybe vegetables are pushed to the side of the plate, fruit loses out to a sweeter snack, or you’re simply trying to help them understand why some foods are better choices than others.  A new programme with Seychelles primary schools could help make those conversations a little easier.

Meet Professor Pascual, here to help Seychelles Children Make Healthier Food Choices

Pascual Seychelles has partnered with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development to launch the Pascual Professor Initiative.  Designed to help children understand more about food, nutrition, balanced diets and healthy eating from an early age.

Making Healthy Eating Fun

The programme will reach 10 primary schools across Mahé during October and November 2026, with 25 sessions for Primary 3 and Primary 4 students.

And rather than simply telling children what they should and shouldn’t eat, the sessions make learning interactive.

Through games, storytelling, practical activities and discussions, children will discover how different foods contribute to a balanced diet and why making healthy choices matters.

Even better, the programme focuses on foods they already see at home and around Seychelles. Think fresh local fruit and vegetables, fish, lentils, beans, root crops and whole grains. The aim is to teach children about variety and moderation while encouraging them to appreciate the nutritious foods already available locally.

Taking Healthy Habits Home

And this is where parents can hopefully benefit too! When your children understand why they should eat certain foods rather than simply being told to eat them, it can change the conversation around the dinner table.

The programme follows the Seychelles Food-Based Dietary Guidelines.  Developed alongside the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and Ministry of Health. It also complements the PSCE curriculum already taught in schools.

The initiative forms part of a new two-year partnership between Pascual and the Ministry of Education, with Pascual fully funding the programme.

So next time your child tells you something they learned about food at school, listen up they might just be the one encouraging the whole family to make a healthier choice!
