Beau Vallon Gets Vibrant New Bazaar

Beau Vallon Beachfront Gets a New Look with Launch of Beau Vallon Beach Bazaar

A new chapter begins for the iconic Beau Vallon promenade with a vibrant marketplace, cultural installations, and local entrepreneur support.

The beachfront at Beau Vallon, one of Seychelles’ most beloved tourist hubs, has officially been transformed and unveiled under its new identity as the Beau Vallon Beach Bazaar. The grand opening took place on Sunday, 29 June, following months of redevelopment, construction, and collaboration between government, private enterprise, and the local community.

The new bazaar now boasts 22 artisanal kiosks, food and beverage stalls, event booths, security posts, toilet facilities, and even a lifeguard kiosk—all designed to offer locals and visitors a more enriching seaside experience.

One of the standout features of the redevelopment is the addition of a cultural monument—a pirogue sculpture, which pays tribute to traditional canoes used by artisanal fishermen. This new cultural piece serves as a symbol of the district’s deep historical connection to the sea.

A Space for Culture, Commerce, and Community

Developed and financed by Laxmanbhai & Co. Seychelles, the project was led by the company’s long-standing dedication to Seychelles, where it has operated for over 50 years. During the official ceremony, Mr. Mahur Raghwani of Laxmanbhai referred to the bazaar as a “humble gift” to the Seychellois people, representing his family’s gratitude to a country they have long called home.

National Assembly Member for Beau Vallon, Hon. John Hoareau, praised the collective effort behind the project, which turned the once modest beachfront into a multifunctional space for leisure, cultural expression, entrepreneurship, and tourism.

“This place must remain one where families and visitors come to spend good leisure time by the beach, savour local food, and buy Creole-made goods and crafts,” he said.

Designed for the Future

Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry, Devika Vidot, highlighted the bazaar as a turning point for the area, noting that past proposals for its renewal had struggled to gain traction. “We wanted to create something more permanent… a welcoming space for both locals and tourists alike,” she said, commending Laxmanbhai for executing the project with the same professionalism they offer private clients.

The new site incorporates durable materials built for coastal conditions, aimed at reducing future maintenance and enhancing longevity.

President Wavel Ramkalawan also attended the event, describing the project as a meaningful contribution to Seychellois culture and heritage. He noted the importance of treating the space with care:

“Beau Vallon should be a place where memories last,” said the President, encouraging both locals and visitors to respect and protect the new space.

A Community Celebration

Following the official unveiling of a commemorative plaque, the event concluded with music, refreshments, and a symbolic handover of kiosk keys to the local entrepreneurs who will bring life to the bazaar.

Public suggestions played a role in the new name, with “Beau Va” referencing the local name for Beau Vallon and the French word “Bazaar” reflecting the vibrant, multicultural atmosphere envisioned for the site.

The Beau Vallon Beach Bazaar is now open to the public, offering a fresh new destination for locals and visitors to enjoy the culture, cuisine, and creativity of Seychelles—right along one of the island’s most iconic shorelines.
