Hey! Have you heard? Festival Kreol is celebrating its 40th anniversary!
Yep, 2025 is a huge year for us Seychellois, it’s the 40th Edition of the Festival Kreol, and honestly, it’s something to celebrate! This isn’t just a festival… it’s our culture, our identity, and the heartbeat of the Creole spirit coming alive on the streets. Since it started back in 1985, what began as a small idea has grown into one of the Indian Ocean’s most loved traditions.
So, what’s the Festival Kreol really about?
Imagine every drumbeat of the moutya dance, the smell of delicious Creole food, colorful parades, and people laughing and celebrating together; that’s the festival! It’s more than just fun… It’s a way for us to show who we are, connect, and share our Creole pride with the world.
How did it all start?
Back when Seychelles was a newly independent country, the festival was born to preserve our culture. Some amazing folks in the Ministry of Culture had this vision, and today, many of them are still keeping the flame alive through the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage, and the Arts. And of course, it’s all of us—the artists, the dancers, the everyday Seychellois—who bring it to life every year.
What’s happening this year?
Oh, you’re in for a treat! The Kornavol Kreol is back, and Victoria is about to burst into color, music, and joy. From Lafoli Lanmod to Bal Bobes, Moman Kreativite to Dimans Kreol, this 40th edition is going to be unforgettable—a big, bold celebration of our heritage and a peek into the future of our culture.
So here’s to 40 years of laughter, music, Creole food, and endless pride. The Festival Kreol isn’t just an event—it’s us, our stories, our rhythm, our spirit. Let’s celebrate it loud and proud!
